The Exchange Building

LOCATION: Seattle, WA
PROJECT: SIZE 2,000 SF

The Exchange Building, constructed in 1930, originally served as the home of the stock exchange. This landmarked gem features stunning details that highlight its original character and embodies an Art Deco style. Today, it functions as a space for work, meetings, and social gatherings. A newly renovated entry space on 1st Avenue has transformed into an elevated dining and gathering area for tenants and visitors alike. The renovation aimed to preserve the elegance of the Art Deco style while modernizing its use and experience.

The space includes strategically designed meeting rooms, an elevated bar and dining area, comfortable soft seating, and versatile steel and wood detailed space dividers to provide flexibility. The raw concrete structure and exposed mechanical systems contrast beautifully with the ornate mosaic flooring, handcrafted wooden casework, and rich patterned materials, creating a stylish, contemporary vibe that pays homage to its historical significance.

Work completed while at SkB Architects as a designer.
